Blue Eggs and Yellow Tomatoes

THAT'S the title of this book. I never buy a book without seeing it in real life first. Yes, I'm weird that way. This book looks amazing. I'll be heading to Borders this week and I hope they have it so I can check it out. Here's part of the description on Amazon:

A visually stunning guide to the emerging kitchen garden culture--combining home-grown ingredients with globally influenced tastes!

Like many of today's home gardeners, Jeanne Kelley's backyard kitchen garden is a means to indulge her desire for fresh, organic, and flavor-rich produce. Just minutes outside of downtown Los Angeles, this same backyard is also home to Kelley's pet goat and Ameraucana chickens, which provide her with a plentiful amount of milk and sky blue eggs that often feature in Kelley's internationally inspired dishes. Now she shares more than 150 of her recipes, all of which incorporate new and authentic ways to take advantage of local and seasonal foods and incorporate the multi-ethnic flavors into your everyday meals.

Pet goat for milk? Chickens? Kitchen garden? Locavore recipes with multi-ethnic flavors? It all sounds good to me! So I'll be checking out this book.

Meanwhile, my brother is living the life - hiking the hills of Spain by day, and attending Spanish cooking classes by night. Now THAT's an adventure!

That sounds WONDERFUL! Please do post and let us all know what you think of it, and if you decide to get it. It *sounds* like it'd be right up my alley too....but we all know how that can turn out when the book is actually in hand. LOL

I miss Borders!!! *sniffle* I think that's the only thing I really miss, other than my dog - being able to wander a nice big bookstore. (Don't get me wrong - they have bookstores here - I just can't read anything in them. BWAHAHA)

Have you been over to 5 Minutes for Mom lately? There's a drawing for a book called The Centurion's Wife that I think you'd be interested in. If you win and it's good, let me know. I love how much choice I have with Amazon, and I am grateful that they ship here BUT I sure wish I could flip through books in hand first.

Inhale many pages for me, my friend. I shall shop vicariously through you. ;-P

I still haven't seen it IRL. Neither my closest Borders or Barnes and Nobles carry it - but they will order it in with no obligation for me to purchase - so I do plan to do that - will keep you posted. It does sound amazing, doesn't it?

Even if you live where you cannot have chickens and goats (like I do) you can still have a great kitchen garden that provides a good amount of your fresh fruits and vegetables--even on a small piece of ground. We have a 1/4 acre lot in a subdivision. We have 31 fruit trees in our garden, as well as grapes, as well as grapes, herbs, tomatoes, artichokes, and more. Today we ate turnips from our garden; for dinner I will pull lettuce tonight for a salad. We rely heavily on our garden to provide for our table.
